At the end of this morning’s Restore Pilates Zoom class we talked about cleaning our Pilates mats.
We realised that at the moment, most houses are using their mats for more than one purpose; your child may be using it for gymnastics while someone else is probably doing yoga sessions on it. Few of us posses more than one mat, and even if we do, cleaning it between every use is ideal.
So below you’ll find my easy to make mat cleaning spray. All you need is a clean spray bottle, some distilled water, and some essential oils.
You could of course make a simpler spray by mixing distilled water and white vinegar together in a spray bottle. I use 1 part white vinegar to 3 parts distilled water for an effective cleaning spray that is used all over the house, from my kitchen surfaces to the toilet.
For a slightly more luxurious mat cleaner, I add a few essential oils for scent and cleaning properties.
Lavender is known to eliminate nervous tension and has disinfecting properties.
Peppermint has antimicrobial properties, is energizing and improves mental focus.
Tea Tree also has antimicrobial properties, and is known to remove odour and mould.
Ingredients:
3/4 cup distilled water
1/4 cup white vinegar
5 drops lavender oil
3 drops peppermint oil
3 drops tea tree oil
Directions:
Mix the ingredients together and pour into a spray bottle.
To use, spray your mat after working out and wipe with a cloth. Allow to air dry.
